He graduated from Allentown Police Academy in 1987. He attended DeSales University for Criminal Justice Administration. Chief Granitz was hired by the Allentown Police Department in November of 2001 and graduated from the Allentown Police Academy in May of 2002.
He was assigned to the patrol division until being selected as a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division in 2005. The Allentown PA Police Department utilizes PSI-EB Jacobs as the vendor to write and administer the entry-level police officer exam. The specific exam utilized is the Law Enforcement Aptitude Battery LEAB which is a multi-factor psychometric test that has proven to be the most comprehensive valid and reliable entry-level law enforcement exam available nationally.

In 1990 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and then named Chief of Police in April 2013. Chief Wayda attended the Criminal Investigators School and the Identification School at the Allentown Police Academy.
He received extensive training in the use of firearms and is an NRA and PA State Police Certified Firearms Instructor.
